Job Summary
The Accountant III is responsible for the day- to-day general ledger accounting and reconciliations, support regulatory and financial audits, evaluating accounting guidance and standards to determine impact to the organization, assessment and adherence to internal controls, financial reporting and analysis for assigned functional areas, participation in special projects and system implementations, providing support and mentorship to junior staff, and providing support to the controller.
Acts as a Subject Matter Expert, serves as a resource and mentor for other staff.
Duties
Perform daily general ledger accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations and analysis ensuring that deadlines are met. Provide support for regulatory and financial audits, including financial statement footnotes.
Work closely with the financial planning and analysis team to ensure that operational spend has been recorded to the general ledger accurately.
Reconcile bank accounts and investigate exception items.
Maintain fixed asset subledger and prepare reconciliation schedules. Coordinate with operational departments to manage asset additions, construction in progress, and disposition.
Maintain lease schedules and prepare reconciliations. Evaluate additions and changes to lease contracts for the purposes of applying the appropriate accounting guidance and presentation in the financial information.
Reconcile monthly spend and prepare reporting for grant contracts.
Contribute and adhere to internal accounting policies.
Review accounting guidance (i.e. GASB, FASB and ASU pronouncements) and evaluate the relevance and impact to the organization.
Responsible for performing special projects to improve process efficiency and performance.
Provide financial statement audit and regulatory reporting support.
Duties Continued
Contribute to the management and governance of the chart of accounts, including but not limited to documentation of changes, system testing, and structure and design.
Maintain administrative expense system allocations schema within the accounting system.
Participate in the financial system implementations and projects.
Applies subject expertise in evaluating business operations and processes. Identifies areas where technical solutions would improve business performance. Ensures that the facts and details are correct so that the project’s/program's deliverable meets the needs of the department, organization and legislation's policies, standards, and best practices. Provides training, recommends process improvements, and mentors junior level staff, department interns, etc. as needed.
Review the work of junior staff to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Experience
Required:
At least 4 years of proven work experience as an accountant or similar role in a finance/ accounting environment.
Hands-on experience with financial and statistical software.
Preferred:
Healthcare/Managed Care experience.
Audit experience.
Skills
Required:
Demonstrable logical thinking.
A strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting/ reporting.
Expertise in MS Excel (creating spreadsheets and using advanced formulas).
Familiarity with finance databases.
Up to date with accounting guidance and regulations.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to details.
Ability to present financial data using detailed reports and charts.
Demonstrable strategic thinking skills.
Confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.
Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
Preferred:
Project Management Skills.
Knowledge of Solomon Accounting System in the health care industry.
