Job Summary

The Controller is responsible for directing general accounting, financial reporting, cash management, investments and capital asset reporting. This position will interface with management throughout the organization. Position requires strong Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting knowledge and experience. Responsible for regularly improving internal controls and financial processes. Serves as a key finance partner in the development and support of internal controls and strategies to achieve organizational goals and objectives.

 

This position is responsible for directing all aspects of running an efficient team, including hiring, supervising, coaching, training, disciplining, and motivating direct-reports.

Duties

Responsible for Financial Accounting, Cash applications, and product line accounting. Insure general ledger is accurately maintained at all times and in accordance to GAAP Oversees all financial and transactional activity within the general ledger including wire transfer of capitation payments, payroll, overhead, capital assets, as well as the maintenance of all related accounting records.

 

Conducts strategic planning to utilize resources in order to meet current and future departmental and Enterprise-wide goals.

 

Direct and coordinate the audit process for all external audits and regulatory reviews. Coordinate and assimilate all information needs for the external auditors. 

 

Ensure a timely and accurate monthly consolidation and financial reporting process. Prepare and produce accurate monthly financial statements and related management reports with applicable analysis. 

 

External Financial Reporting. Accurate and timely submission of all financial reports go external regulatory agencies i.e. California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC), L.A. County Department of Health Care Services (DHS), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), etc.

 

Cash management, including weekly cash forecasting and investment reporting. Assure all cash transactions are accounted for and in compliance with company policies.  Maintain financial policies and procedures manual. Assure all policies and procedures are documented and routinely reviewed/updated to insure proper internal controls.

 

Provide financial guidance and support to nonfinancial management. Assure appropriate accounting practices and helps to educate organization on proper procedures to ensure financial control.

 

Develops goals, objectives and actions plans for assigned staff which includes full management responsibility for the hiring, performance reviews, salary reviews and disciplinary matters for direct reporting employees.

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
In lieu of degree, equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.

Experience

Required:

Minimum of 7 years of accounting management with 5-6 years of supervisory/management experience.

Ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.

 

Knowledge of and ability to use processes, tools and techniques for exploring and evaluating alternative financial scenarios and results.

 

Knowledge of the functions, tools and processes needed to manage financial assets and liabilities throughout the organization.

 

Knowledge of the methods, processes, and tools for maintaining the books of the organization and preparing financial statements and reports.

 

Knowledge of financial and accounting applications specific to the organization.
