DUTIES

The Data User Experience Specialist is responsible for supporting L.A. Care data science projects by leading the User Experience (UX) efforts of the Data Science Innovation team, which primarily consist of developing and maintaining the user interface of data science products. This individual will collaborate heavily with business users, data scientists, and data engineers to translate data science analyses and model findings into interactive, server-based applications that tell a story and allow business users to take performance-improving actions, leveraging data visualization and UX best practices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Finance, or other related technical disciplines

Preferred

Master's Degree in Statistics, Analytics, or completion of a comparable quantitative curriculum

 

EXPERIENCE

Required

- 3+ years of developing interactive data visualization products
- 3 + years of data analysis
- Ability to illustratively tailor and simplify advanced analytic findings in ways that allow non-technical end-users to easily consume and take action.
- Ability to collaborate with both technical (data science, engineering) and non-technical (end-user) teams to fully understand project objectives.
- Ability to iteratively design products based on a deep understanding of the applications’ user experience.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at once.
- Ability to work optimally as part of a cross-functional team.
- Ability to problem solve and quickly find solutions on your own.
- Proficiency in developing and publishing products in Tableau, connecting to multiple data sources.
 
 Preferred:  
- Previous health care or health insurance experience
- 2+ years developing and publishing dashboards with Tableau and Tableau Server
- 2+ years working with Hadoop
- Ability to source and visualize data in distributed platforms such as Hive.
- Understanding of predictive modeling concepts, including supervised and unsupervised machine learning
