Job Summary
The Manager of Business Insights for Advanced Analytics Lab (AAL) is responsible for the guidance and oversight of a core group of data analysts supporting short and long-term operational and/or strategic business initiatives.
This role will work with operational, financial and clinical data and interpret the unstructured needs of the organization to develop and deliver meaningful solutions that support diverse business needs, generate insights, apply creative problem-solving skills, and proactively shape and drive agendas forward.
Working in a highly matrixed environment, the Manager of Business Insights will need to directly and indirectly guide team members, consult and create partnerships with business colleagues and have the leadership skills to influence outcomes. This role manages all aspects of running an efficient team, including hiring, supervising, coaching, training, disciplining, and motivating direct-reports.
Duties
Provides oversight on the: monitoring, explaining and improving operational and financial performance for L.A. Care’s products (e.g. MediCal, LACC) and key operational processes (e.g. Claims processing, Encounter processing, PDRs).
Oversee the requirements, functionality and data quality for developing and enhancing analytics dashboards. Provide visualization on L.A. care clinical, utilization and financial performance.
In partnership with other cross-functional leaders, develop business “data scientist” capabilities and cultivate deep analytical skills including data mining, visualization, data blending and manipulation to drive more meaning from the data and drive process improvements (e.g. reduce medical costs). Work with big data to validate medical fraud investigations and support medical cost reduction opportunities through complex data analysis and visualization.
Support organizational blue chips through building analytical frameworks to drive new business opportunities, measure implementation and ongoing process outputs and provide course correction support as required.
Ensure continued management and development of analytic abstraction data layers that support the team’s data analysis and solutions. Engage in information Technology (IT) data management regarding the team’s evolving data strategy and needs.
Manage and translate business problems into actionable analyses or solutions, develop reports, and prepare presentations of complex analytic concepts and research results to non-analytical audiences.
Manages all aspects of running an efficient team, including hiring, supervising, coaching, training, disciplining, and motivating direct reports. Responsible for handling questions or issues raised by staff; encourages staff to participate and provide recommendations for relevant process and systems enhancements.

Required:
At least 6 years of experience in business/finance analysis using statistical and visualization tools and techniques with the demonstrated experience, skills and/or knowledge on the section below.
Minimum of 4 years of experience leading staff or supervising/managing a team.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in SQL
Equivalency: Completion of the L.A. Care Management Certificate Training Program may substitute for the supervisory/management experience requirement.
Preferred:
Experience in leading a team of data analyst knowledgeable in SQL.
Experience and knowledge in Python and/or R Programming, Tableau.
Healthcare claims experiences.
Skills
Required: Strong knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) Strong knowledge of relational databases and data structures. Gathering requirements from the client/business and documenting. Process improvement and development, benchmarking and/or evaluation of business processes. Strong critical reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills.
