Job Summary
The Manager of Information Technology (IT) Artificial Intelligence (AI) manages the development and implementation of artificial intelligence solutions that drive operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and member engagement across the health plan payer organization. This position oversees a team of AI data engineers, ensuring that AI models are ethically deployed, secure, and aligned with enterprise goals.
The Manager collaborates with IT, compliance, and business stakeholders to identify automation opportunities and deliver scalable AI capabilities across claims, care management, and customer service platforms. The Manager manages all aspects of running an efficient team, including hiring, supervising, coaching, training, disciplining, and motivating direct reports. This position participates and make recommendation on the department's strategic planning and/or long-term decision-making.
Duties
Manage the design and deployment of AI/Machine Learning (ML) models for payer operations.
Collaborate with compliance and security teams to ensure ethical AI use.
Help guide implementation of AI risk mitigation frameworks, addressing data security, privacy, access control, explainability, model bias, and monitoring.
Oversee AI integration into claims, care management, and member services.
Drive backlog and strategic AI initiatives aligned with enterprise goals.
Ensure AI solutions meet regulatory and audit requirements.
Monitor AI model performance and retraining cycles.
Develop documentation and governance for AI lifecycle management.
Manage staff , including, but not limited to: monitoring of day to day activities of staff, monitoring of staff performance, mentoring, training, and cross-training of staff, handling of questions or issues, etc. raised by staff, encourage staff to provide recommendations for relevant process and systems enhancements, among others.
Manages complex projects, engaging and updating key stakeholders, developing timelines, leads others to complete deliverables on time and ensures implementation upon approval.
Responsible for reporting, budgeting, and policy implementation.

Experience
Required:
At least 8 years of experience in data/AI engineering,
At least 5 years of experience in leading supervising and/or managing staff.
Completion of the L.A. Care Management Certificate Training Program may substitute for the supervisory/management experience requirement.
Experience managing Large Language Models (LLM)/GenAI projects including model selection/customization prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG implementation from ideation through production deployment.
Experience in healthcare data and regulatory environments.
Experience leading teams, projects, initiatives, or cross-functional groups.
Preferred:
Experience in health plan payer systems and regulatory compliance.
Skills
Required:
Advance skills in Python, ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), data governance, Snowflake data cloud.
Ability to lead and mentor technical teams.
Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships, fostering teamwork, and creating a positive work environment. Ability to guide and support team members.
Excellent ability to set clear goals, develop strategic plans to achieve those goals, and inspire others to work towards a shared vision.
Skilled in mediating disputes and resolving conflicts in a fair and constructive manner.
Must have a deep understanding of financial principles.
Ability and excellent knowledge in developing and managing budgets, forecasting future financial outcomes, and making informed decisions about resource allocation.

Strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
Deep understanding of the industry, market dynamics, and organizational operations to identify opportunities and navigate challenges.
Strong ability and knowledge to analyze market trends, anticipate future changes, and develop long-term strategies that align with the company's goals.
Preferred:
Snowflake GenAI components, Snowflake Cortex, and Snowflake Arctic skills.
AWS Generative AI components skills.
