Job Summary

The Principal System Administrator is a seasoned System Administrator responsible for leading the day-to-day System engineering and project specific tasks relating to all L.A. Care Virtualized and non-Virtualized Server systems, backup, disaster recovery, Automation, SAN, Data Loss Prevention, LogRhythm SIEM- central logging management,  Architect Active Directory, GPO, SSL certificate, DNS and LADAP load balancing,  DMZ, Scripting data encryptions, Luns, Volumes, and Aggregate of storage technology setup and configurations, and MS Exchange servers, outbound SMTP and email filtering and whitelisting. Acts as department expert to determine hardware and software requirements; maintains and supports software packages; ensures hardware and software compatibility; facilitates scalability and capacity planning is conducive to maximum system performance. This hands on position leads the development and implementation of security plans, server security policies, concepts of operations, and documentation for  Information Technology (I.T.) Operations Team. The Principal Systems Administrator will help architect, design, and make recommendations to new technologies.  In addition, this position will mentor the Senior Systems Administrator and share new technical technology knowledge.

Duties

Serves as a subject matter expert and provides design and operational support for Windows, and LINUX servers,  Email server,  Apache Web server, SQL Server, IIS, job scripting, MFT/SFTP,  physical servers + Blade servers technology, security tools applications, Storage and Blade technology networking/switching connectivity configuration and supporting production, development, QA and business continuance environments.  Acts as a resource to other System Administrators.


  
Interact, meet, discuss, and troubleshoot issues with vendors; evaluate vendor products, services, suggestions.  Be a backup to Systems Administration Manager and attend meetings with business units, vendors and internal IT departments. 


  
Recommend and implement system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system including installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management. Provide reporting for infrastructure team with storage capacity usage, Vmware VMs and physical hosts reporting.  Work on department capacity planning with storage, physical vmhost servers, Microsoft Windows, Redhat linux, Vmware, and licensing. 


 
Troubleshoots, rebuilds, recovers and tunes servers. Ensures that standard operating procedures (SOP’s) are created and complied to ensure a stable environment.      

 

Manage and maintain Disaster Recovery across all I.T. departments to ensure the critical systems, VMware images, and applications are updated, and replicated and functioning without issue  in the event of an outage.

Education Required

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems or Related Field
In lieu of degree, equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.

Required:
At least 6-8 years of extensive experience providing system administrator support for Storage, MS Windows and LINUX in a VMware based network production environment. 

 

Minimum of 6 years of lead experience.

Required:
Able to prioritize work and complete deliverables to timelines with minimal supervision by senior staff.
Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, reliability, effective follow-through and demonstrated project management skills in an I.T. technical environment.


 
Strong ability and knowledge of system operations to recommend and develop solutions to a variety of technical problems.
