Job Summary


The Process Improvement Engineer III primary responsibilities center on leading continuous improvement initiatives, with a focus on Lean and other robust problem solving techniques, which lead to significant improvements in the organization's operational performance, customer service levels, compliance with regulations, and overall financial health.   As a subject matter expert in the application of Process Improvement methodologies in the field of Managed Care, the Process Improvement Engineer III is a resource to other Process Improvement Engineer levels that independently facilitates complex performance improvement activities, which includes leading small and  large cross-functional process improvement teams in developing and refining systems and processes to meet key business objectives within prescribed timeframes.

This position collaborates with executive and senior leadership to identify strategic opportunities for operational improvements and utilizes critical thinking techniques to solve complex problems.

Additionally, this position works closely with various internal departments, including I.T. and the Project Management Office, to confirm and verify needs assessments and to develop solutions for implementation.

Duties

Collaborate with senior managers and executive leadership to identify strategic opportunities for operational improvement and efficiency.

 

Utilize critical thinking, creative and innovative solutioning, and retain an objective viewpoint to successfully resolve complex problems. 

 

Identify, plan and implement process improvement projects to increase internal/external customer satisfaction and maximize organizational efficiencies by reducing costs, minimizing waste, improving quality and increasing productivity. Creates future state process flows, defines and documents into actionable Business Requirements in conjunction with business users and I.T. Leads large scale projects and project teams; able to work independently on complex business issues.

 

Conducts business analysis of the as-is process flows and information received from Planning Management to determine opportunities for improvement. Performs process and data analysis to identify waste and root causes of the problems. Submits approved needs assessments and business requirements to Project Management Office (PMO) for implementation.

 

Engages business, relevant stakeholders and Information Technology (I.T.) to review and approve developed solutions.

 

Provides subject matter expertise on process improvement methodologies, mentors and guides process improvement staff.

 

Quantifies the results of improved processes, work flows and opportunities for improvement. Summarizes insights and information concisely and clearly (in writing and verbally) translates findings into a compelling story and recommendation to drive to decisions.

 

Leverages subject matter expertise and Managed Care experience to mentor and guide internal BPI team members, L.A. Care staff, and external entities as necessary.

 

Foster a culture of continuous improvement that values learning and commitment to quality. Serve as a guide, advisor, facilitator on how to use process improvement (i.e. Six Sigma and Lean Management) tools and analytical techniques.

Education Required

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Related Field
In lieu of degree, equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.

Education Preferred

Master's Degree in Engineering or Related Field

Experience

Required:
A minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Six Sigma Green Belt successfully leading multiple cross functional process improvement projects, with a minimum of 2 years of  fieldwork experience with direct application within a Managed Health Care plan.

 

Proven experience in process improvement, leading projects with a record of successful implementation.

 

Experience developing requirements, performing data analysis, constructing process flow diagrams, cost benefit analysis and solution development.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Outlook).
